We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We work across the nation in communities, state legislatures, Congress, courts and medical settings to:
Educate the public about the importance of documenting end-of-life values and priorities and about the full range of available options.
Empower every individual with achievable options, authoritative information and constructive advice for guiding their care and engaging with their providers.
Advocate for expanded choices, secure and ready access to them and improved medical practice that puts patients first and values quality of life in treatment plans for terminal illness.
Defend existing end-of-life options from efforts to restrict access.
We Provide Hospice In The Setting Where It's Needed
A hospice pioneer since the late 1970s, VITAS is the nation’s leading hospice provider because of its longstanding experience, unique offerings, and ongoing investment in education, technology and training so that thousands of advanced illness patients may receive high-quality and compassionate end-of-life care every year.
We Support the Human Right to a Death with Dignity. We hold that mentally competent adults who suffer from a terminal illness, intractable physical pain, chronic or progressive physical disabilities, or who face loss of autonomy and selfhood through dementia, have a basic human right to choose to end their lives when they judge their quality of life to be unacceptable.
The Coalition for Compassionate Care of California (CCCC) promotes high-quality, compassionate care for everyone who is seriously ill or nearing the end of life.
